Reiki

What is Reiki? Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a gentle, Japanese energy healing technique developed in the early 1900s by Mikao Usui. The word comes from two Japanese words: "Rei," meaning universal or higher wisdom, and "Ki," meaning life force energy.

It is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us all. When your energy is low or blocked, you are more likely to feel stressed or unwell; when it is high and flowing freely, you feel more balanced, calm, and healthy.

Reiki works by guiding energy through the body to promote natural balance and healing. One of its primary benefits is promoting deep relaxation and stress relief. A session helps shift your central nervous system out of "fight-or-flight" mode into a calm "rest-and-digest" state, which naturally lowers heart rate and reduces stress hormones like cortisol.

By relaxing physical tissues and improving energy flow, Reiki frequently aids in pain and tension reduction. Many individuals find it helps ease chronic muscle stiffness, tension headaches, back pain, and post-surgical discomfort.

The deep sense of peace induced by treatment directly contributes to better sleep quality. By calming an overactive mind and releasing emotional stress, recipients often experience longer, more restful sleep following a session.

For emotional wellbeing, Reiki offers a gentle, supportive space to process complex feelings. It can be particularly soothing during times of grief, anxiety, burnout, or major life transitions by helping release held emotional strain.

Finally, by restoring overall balance and calming the body, Reiki provides valuable immune and recovery support. It encourages your body’s natural self-healing mechanisms, which is why it is increasingly offered as a complementary therapy in hospitals and wellness centres alongside standard medicine.

Your appointment begins with a brief preparation where you remain fully clothed and settle comfortably faceup on a massage bed. During the treatment, the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above specific energy centers across your head, chest, stomach, and back. As the energy flows, you might experience a warm or tingling sensation, a soothing wave of calm, or you may simply drift off to sleep. A typical session lasts between 45 to 60 minutes, offering a gentle, non-invasive experience suitable for all ages.
